Judicial Assistant

Location: East Court, 101 W Jefferson Street, Phoenix, AZ 85003

Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or GED and three (3) years of administrative experience. Preference given to those with experience working in a court system, law office, or other legal setting.

Other combinations of education and experience may be substituted as follows:
Experience as a Bailiff/Courtroom Assistant or Judicial Clerk Senior within the Maricopa County Superior Court may substitute for the experience requirement.
Completion of an accredited legal secretary or paralegal training program or certification, may substitute for two years of experience.
Completion of post-secondary, college level courses may substitute for one year of the experience requirement (thirty (30) credit hours = one year).

Our comprehensive benefits package includes medical/dental/vision, up to 23-vacation days/year and 10 paid holidays, and 1 floating personal day. This position is Unclassified and not covered by the Classified Personnel Rules or Judicial Merit Rules.

Assists the judicial officer with administrative, clerical, and legal tasks; provides direct customer service to lawyers, parties, jurors, witnesses and visitors in a courtroom environment; organizes and directs the administrative functions in support of court activities; schedules motions for hearing; resolves administrative problems; maintains court personnel, attendance and performance records; prepares a variety of letters, memoranda and jury instructions when requested; maintains and revises daily court calendars; handles a variety of requests, inquiries, and complaints from litigants, general public, lawyers, judges and other court personnel; notifies all parties as to the dates of proceedings; arranges for interpreters and pro tem judges as necessary; supervises support staff of the court including assisting with selection, training and evaluation.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of:
Court policies and procedures, legal terminology, office procedures and practices.
The legal requirements for processing court documents, supervision, and personnel administration.
The principles and processes for customer service standards and procedures.

Skill in:
Verbally communicating with others to convey information effectively.
Communicating effectively in writing as appropriate for the needs of the audience.
The use of computer applications and software such as MS Outlook, Word, Excel, iCIS, OnBase, and eFile.

Ability to:
Understand and follow quickly and accurately brief oral and written instructions.
Make sound decisions in accordance with regulations, policies and procedures.
Maintain a court calendar and work effectively with judges, commissioners, attorneys, court personnel, and the general public.
Analyze, organize and prioritize work while meeting multiple deadlines.
