Paralegal II - Financial Litigation (federal contractor in Albuquerque)

The United States Attorneys Office, District of New Mexico, has a need for a Paralegal II contractor to provide legal support for the Financial Litigation Unit in Albuquerque. A paralegal is needed to work with the criminal restitution team to prepare, monitor and assist the Assistant U.S. Attorneys with litigation.

Hours of Operation: The contractor will generally perform the services required under this contract within a 40-hour work/week, Monday through Friday, 8:30 5:00 daily. The mission may require periodic overtime hours to be worked, but any OT will be authorized ahead of time. Some travel within the district is required to perform these duties; all authorized travel expenses will be reimbursed.

Duties: The Paralegal II contractor shall provide the following litigation support service tasks:
Review, analyze, and assist in the collection of debts in criminal cases, including restitution and fines.
Review, analyze, and evaluate civil collection referrals and implement applicable measures to collect civil judgments.
Review incoming material and independently determine the need for assembly and preparation of a variety of legal documents, e.g., complaints, motions, orders, and answers.
Conduct asset investigations in appropriate cases to recover restitution owed to crime victims. Coordinate with the USAO victim/witness staff to ensure adherence to current Departmental guidelines relating to victims rights and services responsibilities.
Notify and assist appropriate federal agencies and individual victims with procedures for recovery of victim compensation.
Draft appropriate correspondence and pleadings for FLU Assistant U.S. Attorney (AUSA), including complaints, motions and briefs.
List cited cases, opinions and miscellaneous references in briefs and verify citations and statutory references contained in legal documents.
Prepare recurring legal documents that conform to applicable rules governing style and format.
Provide litigation support required to collect criminal and civil debts and to assist the FLU AUSA as needed, including management of discovery and case-related electronic databases.

Qualifications required:
A paralegal certification.
At least two years of litigation paralegal experience required; financial collection experience is preferred.
At least one year of experience in automated litigation support.
Ability to review and work with a wide variety of documents, both legal and non-legal documents, including Motions and briefs, and a variety of legal correspondence.
Proficient in Microsoft Office programs, and various litigation support software applications.
Knowledge of standard litigation support principles, methods and technology to perform routine and recurring litigation support assignments, identify and resolve technical issues and problems.
Ability to create technical documents that are grammatically correct, easy to follow and adhere to a standard format.

This position requires U.S. Citizenship.

Background and Screening: Candidates must be able to favorably complete a federal background investigation.
