The Paralegal II is located in our Kirkland, WA office and reports to the Sr. Legal Counsel.

I. Job Summary
Assists supervising attorney and internal clients on various moderate to highly complex legal activities. Manages and reviews standard and form service agreements, procurement contracts, and other routine contracts. Assists attorneys and public sector team in responding to and managing requests for proposals and bids from municipal customers. Provide project related research and document review support for WM's Sustainability Team. Manages legal files for Pacific Northwest Market Area and for projects in other Market Areas where WM attorneys are involved. Assists attorneys on environmental, health, and safety compliance matters.

II. Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Other minor duties may be assigned.
Reviews, revises, and negotiates form service agreements, procurement contracts, and other routine contracts.
Manages intake of requests for legal assistance, including assignment of projects to outside counsel or non-legal in-house staff. Coordinates projects with assigned outside counsel.
Conducts basic legal research and analyzes law sources such as statutes, judicial decisions, legal articles and/or codes.
Organizes and maintains all files and filing, including maintaining index of files.
May conduct fact-gathering and interviews of personnel in other departments and outside the organization while performing research or other legal responsibilities.
Assists attorneys with complex case research, subject and topic research and briefings of court or administrative cases.
Assists in implementation of legal-related processes, policies, and technologies.
Creates new matters and manages existing matters using companys legal matter management software for outside counsel. Provides preliminary review of invoices from outside counsel.
Works with appropriate departments/functions within the Company to ensure implementation of policies or actions when necessary.
Responds to questions, subpoenas, requests for records, legal documentation/contracts and/or other requests from outside counsel and Company management. Disseminates requests and related information as required and/or directed.
May review and analyze recommendations made by outside counsel. Obtains and communicates appropriate authorization when necessary for settlements.

IV. Qualifications
The requirements listed below are representative of the qualifications necessary to perform the job.


A. Education and Experience

Required: High school diploma or G.E.D, and four or more years previous experience.

Preferred: Associate's Degree, or equivalent experience in Paralegal studies, or similar area or study, and four or more years previous experience.

B. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations or Other Requirements
None required.


C. Other Knowledge, Skills or Abilities Required

Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
